Who am I?
I am just another guy who likes tinkering around with machines and has a passion for old bikes and new ideas. This is my first go at setting up a Web Page and Blogging, as I have never had a social media account of any kind, so please be patient. I have started this page to share my DIY experience, converting a Motorbike from Petrol to Electric in Queensland Australia, and the processes I've had to follow to get the bike back on the road.

When did my passion spark
Growing up on a farm in Victoria, I have always been tinkering with motorbikes and machinery. It all started at the age of 11 while standing in the machinery shed where old farm bikes went to die. I noticed 2 old Honda CT 90s, one Red and one Orange, on closer inspection they were identical with the same frame and engine. The Red bike was pushed into the shed with a blown motor, followed by the Orange bike a couple of years later. The frame on the Orange bike had rusted through and broken in half but the engine was good. I raided my Fathers toolbox, stripped the 2 bikes down and using the best parts from the 2 bikes, was riding my new Red and Orange Honda CT90 around the farm 11 hours later.

After a few years of use, it did need a new engine and I considered adding an Electric Motor, but all we had was an old starter motor and I couldn’t get it to fit with just stuff laying around on the farm.
So what is this Project?
Sitting on the couch one weekend trolling the internet for updates on new electric bike technology and anything else bike related, I came across an old 1988 CBR250R MC19, listed as not running. I remarked to my Wife that this would make a good EV Conversion Bike and to my surprise she agreed and encouraged me to purchase it.
So I Did!
The Project Bike
This is the 1988 Honda CBR250R MC19 bike as listed For Sale, it is a little rough but after looking online at parts availability, you can basically buy any parts that need replacing from mechanical, electrical, to cosmetic, including full fairing kits.

During this project we are going to strip the old bike down and refurbish everything that needs it, carry out any structural modifications and source suitable components for the electrical conversion.

The aim of the project is that once completed, it will look like a new bike and will be registered for on road use in Queensland.

Once it's back on the road, we will look at programming, performance and price compared to new electric motorbikes.
